· Commissioned by the U.S. Government in 1824 as one of several carriages to transport Revolutionary War hero Marquis de Lafayette on his American farewell tour.
· It was originally built by John Curlet in Baltimore and changed hands several times before being purchased by Clement Studebaker in 1887 to become a display piece in their Chicago repository and at fairs and expositions.
· The carriage is the oldest vehicle in the Studebaker National Museum’s collection.
· It sports several layers of paint from over its long lifetime. Bright yellow and green livery are thought to be its original paint scheme.
